Mauritius Health and Care Campus

The Mauritius Health and Care Campus supports the transformation of the city of Steinfurt from a textile industry location to a service centre with a focus on health, families and senior citizens.
At the landscape level, in the design by Franken Architekten for the selection procedure, the buildings of the MHCC are distributed in the form of butterflies (Dutch: Vlinder) around the former stream (Dutch: Stroom). The buildings of the MHCC contain a rehabilitation clinic with hotel standard, a nursing home, a day-care centre with senior living above it, and residential buildings for families and clinic staff, all embedded in the natural surroundings of the Münsterland region. The nursing school complements the medical education offered by the UKM.
The edges of the planning area are defined by two beams of radiation, to which the bar-shaped structures as well as the landscape space between the buildings align.

Narrative Spaces

Scenography is not confined to
the stage or screen, nor just to presen-tation events and trade shows. It is a design approach, rooted in narrative, that can be applied as well to individual buildings and even to urban environments.
