Cocoon, Design Center Busan, Busan, South-Korea - FRANKEN\ARCHITEKTEN

"She accidently dropped a cocoon in the hot water and then she discovered that cocoon fibres could be unwound. A threat could be attained from it, one who is strong enough for weaving."
"Silk", Movie, Francois Girard, 2007

For the Fashion Design Center, to revitalize the textile industry in Korea, a cocoon with a hard outer shell and soft interior defined the shape of the structure. We interpreted fabric, fibers and woven material in an architectural sense to create the inner and outer façade.

Narrative Spaces

Rituals create both movement
and meaning in spaces, as with the liturgy and the theatre, linking the real to the abstract. Ritual is the means of inflecting the sublime and the ethereal into a narrative.
